2006-09-08 Capirossi sets pace on day 1 at Sepang

Loris Capirossi continued his strong performance from the last Grand Prix at Brno and set pace in both free practice sessions held in Sepang today. Capirossi's closest rival in free practice today was Dani Pedrosa, who set second fastest time, around 0.3 seconds slowner that Capirossi. Pedrosa was catapulted from his Honda RC-211V in second free practice, but fortunantelly he escaped uninjured. Kenny Roberts was thrid fastest today, half second behind Pedrosa.
John Hopkins set third fastest time, in front of Honda rookie Casey Stoner. Makoto Tamada shown promissing performance, as he ended day as 6th fastest. Valentino Rossi improved his time from FP1 for about one second, but this was just enough for 7th place. Returning Sete Gibernau was second fastest Ducati in 8th place, with Marco Melandri in 9th place. Melandri, Stoner and Hayden were only three riders not improving their times in second fpree practice. Shinya Nakano completed 10 fastest riders today.
