Valentino Rossi set new qualifying record at Brno circuit today, as he took pole position in literally last seconds of qualifying session. Lap time of 1:56.191 set by Valentino Rossi was 1.313 seconds better than old pole position record set by Sete Gibernau last year, once again showing all hard work done on MotoGP machines. More important for Rossi, it seems that Yamaha engineers have found solution for qualifying problems that teethed him throught the 2006 season.
Second fastest man at Brno today was recovered Loris Capirossi, who set fastest time mid-way through the session, and his time seemed untouchable until fast lap of Valentino Rossi. Capirossi is one of riders having great race pace for tomorrow's race, so he was not bothered too much by loosing pole position in last seconds of qualifying session.
Kenny Roberts Jr was best Honda qualifier today, stealing third position on the grid from the Nicky Hayden in his last fast lap. Hayden was redelegated to 4th position, which is also acceptable for American in forthcoming title fight. Shinya Nakano once again achieved great qualifying result for Kawasaki by finishing session in 5th place, in front of Toni Elias, who was down the order for the most of the weekend.
John Hopkins qualified to the first place in 3rd row, where he was joined by Colin Edwards and Dani Pedrosa. Randy De Puniet completed top 10 qualifiers today at Brno. Weather forecast for tomorrow shows that race may take place in wet conditions, but for sure we may expect to see great fight at the beginning of the last stage of MotoGP championship.
