2007-06-30 Assen MotoGP: The Doctor operates again

 Valentino Rossi today made fantastic recovery in Assen from 11 position on the grid to claim his third victory of the season. After being 9th in lap one, Rossi found his way through the field to catch charging Stoner and take first place in lap 23, where he stayed until the end of the race. Casey Stoner led race from first lap, looking like he will make another dominant victory, but this time Australian was unable to defend from rejuvenated Rossi. Assen race was also place of recovery for another struggling champion, Nicky Hayden, who finally returned to podium after being down the field in previous races.
Dani Pedrosa once again rode to 4th place, trailing his team-mate for most of the race, but being unable to find that extra bit needed to get into podium. John Hopkins had excellent start and spend first 11 laps in second place, before being overtaken by Rossi and Repsol duo, setting in his usuall 5th place as the race came to an end. Colin Edwards had promissing start, but as race progressed he was unable to go on pace that he demonstrated in practices, and finshed race in 6th place.
Duo of Sattelite Ducati riders, Barros and Hofmann ended race in 7th and 8th place respectively, with fantastic Australian Anthony West bringing Kawasaki home in 9th in his only second race in MotoGP category. For sure, there is much more to come from talented Kawasaki rider, and we are looking forward seeing it. Marco Melandri completed top 10 finishers in Assen today, dropping down the order after encouraging start.
Casey Stoner still leads championship, now by 21 points from Valentino Rossi. Dani Pedrosa is still in 3rd place, 45 points behind Rossi. John Hopkins jumped in front of his team-mate to 4th place in championship, which is great result for Rizla Suzuki team at this stage.
