Lorenzo celebrates pole position in Motegi with his team

Jorge Lorenzo took 4th pole position in 2008, stealing it from Casey Stoner in last minutes of free practice. In a manner of Arsen Lupin, Lorenzo stole attention from Rossi and Stoner, setting new pole position record in Motegi - 1:45.543. Casey Stoner thus had to settle in second position, around quarter of a second behind Lorenzo. Nicky Hayden completed first row on Honda territory.

Valentino Rossi will start Sunday's race from first position in second row, in front of Dani Pedrosa. Loris Capirossi, who won last three Motegi races, will start from 6th place on the grid. Colin Edwards heads 3rd row, in front of Randy de Puniet and Shinya Nakano. James Toseland completed top 10 qualifiers in Motegi today.
