2008-09-12 Anthony West sets pace in wet Indianapolis

 Anthony West was fastest man of the first free practice on the Indianapolis motor speedway, utilizing his wet weather knowledge to edge rookie Alex De Angelis for just 0.117 seconds. Casey Stoner was 3rd fastest, just 0.039 seconds behind De Angelis, suffering highside at the end of the 1.5 hour long free practice session.
Andrea Dovizioso was fastest Michelin shoed rider. John Hopkins edged his ex team-mate Vermeulen for 5th place, while Jorge Lorenzo took glory of being fastest Yamaha rider. Home hero, Nicky Hayden, finished first free session in front of another American, AMA Superbike superstar Ben Spies. Toni Elias completed top 10, while Valentino Rossi got slow start by setting 11th time of the fp1.
